Mediterranean fruit fly is active in our area. The Department of Agriculture says that without control, it would infest 100% of stone fruit. There are two recommended methods of control, baiting and trapping and the Departments strongly recommends using both. Your Residents Association cannot supply traps (you can make your own or buy them) BUT we can help with baiting.
For just $2.00, or free to members, we can supply you with 200 ml of an attractant that works very well. This needs to be mixed with water and an insecticide and applied as large drops to fruit trees every week.
More details can be found at https://www.agric.wa.gov.au/fruit/mediterranean-fruit-fly?page=0%2C0. It is worth reading right to the end.
To obtain your attractant just phone Graeme on 0417 353 158 to arrange a mutually suitable time and bring a container that will hold 200 ml. This will make a total of 20 litres of spray which will treat 10 fruit trees for the whole season. You will also need Maldison or Malathion (same thing) from a garden store or farm supplier. Instructions on mixing this and the attractant will also be provided.
