Bushfire Ready Groups
It is great to see and hear about those of you who have been busy with community activities, establishing new bushfire ready groups in your patch and working with existing groups leading into the bushfire season. Please remember, if you have an activity or event planned, please send details through to me on the Bushfire Ready Activities Feedback Form attached. Also, if you have new street coordinators, please complete their details on the Street Coordinator Feedback Sheet to ensure they are covered by public liability insurance.
If you have any questions about these, please contact me.
Message from Rachael Parkes, Bushfire Ready Program Manager
I am pleased to be able to announce that the Bushfire Ready Program has been awarded the ‘2014 State Highly Commended Resilient Australia Award’, under the State Government Division.
The Resilient Australia Awards are supported and coordinated by the State Emergency Management Committee. They recognise innovative practices and achievements across the nation that are making our communities safer, stronger, more resilient and better prepared to manage any emergency situation. The Bushfire Ready program was particularly recognised for its contribution to strengthening community connectedness and increasing bushfire planning and preparedness measures.
Roger Joyner, Bushfire Ready Facilitator from Bullsbrook VFS and myself represented Bushfire Ready at the ceremony and were presented with the award by Joe Francis MLA, Minister for Emergency Services.
DFES’s Bushfire Patrol program was the State winner under the State Government Division.

Community Fair

This event was held on 19 October and in spite of the rain that fell all day, was a great success. There are photos on Facebook at and everyone looks happy. Congratulations to Tracey and the team for all their hard work.

The Lake Clifton-Herron Landcare Group can help local residents with planting projects. Pottiputki planters are available for hire, along with a Landcare person, and plant guards/stakes are available at a very competitive price. Many plants can be ordered from Men Of The Trees for next year’s planting season – contact Kaye Toussaint for a plant list. MOTT are now taking orders for next year. Contact: Jenny Rose – 0428343028 or Nancy Fardin – 0439928470

The AGM of the Association was held on 2 November. President Jenny reported on our activities for the year and thanked those who had made it all possible. The Association has served the community in many areas including road safety, tourism development, the community fair, Landcare activities, support of interest groups, improvements to the hall, library, audio visual nights and much more. Jenny’s report is available here and is worth reading. Jenny was re-elected as President and the committee members are Graeme Wyatt (Vice President), Margaret Bavera (Secretary), Judy Wyatt (Treasurer), Tracey Timmins, Michael Timmins, Pat Brown, Peter Brown, Jacky Ding, Nancy Fardin.

Fruit fly reminder

There has been a good response to our offer of free attractant to help control Mediterranean fruit fly but we need more people to help themselves and others with this dreadful pest. The Department of Agriculture (DAFWA) says that without control, it would infest 100% of stone fruit. Just bring a container and pick up some Flavex at the hall on Saturday 15 November or 6 December between 0930 and 1130 or phone 0407 175 564 any time. This is free for members of LCHPSA; non-members will be charged $2.
