MONTHLY THEME
Please see attached the December Bushfire Ready (BFR) Monthly Theme Fact Sheet Understanding the Bushfire Warning System and Emergency Alert.

Understand the Bushfire Warning System Alert Levels
During a bushfire, emergency services will provide as much information as possible
through a variety of channels.
DFES issues Community Alerts for bushfires that threaten lives and properties.
The alert level changes to reflect the increasing risk to your life and the decreasing
amount of time you have until the fire arrives.

Please feel free to forward the attached Monthly Theme Fact Sheet and the snippet information on to your Bushfire Ready Groups, community networks and anyone that would benefit from this information.
ABC1 Catalyst disaster behaviour special – ‘Don’t panic’ if you missed it…
ABC1 (TV) Catalyst program broadcast a special feature on Sunday December 1 at 7.30 called “Don’t Panic; Surviving Extremes” which uses live scenarios to demonstrate how people behave in disasters and why plans, and practicing plans, are so vital. I have attached a document that provides some background information on the program.

ARE YOU BUSHFIRE READY?
Western Australians are being asked “Are you ready?” for the bushfire season as part of a new State Government media campaign that was launched on 1 December 2013.
The “Are you ready?” campaign centres on the message that bushfire preparedness is a “shared responsibility” and encourages the community to make necessary preparations for the season.
Victoria Cross recipient Ben Roberts-Smith fronts the campaign along with representatives from each of the State’s fire services. This includes the Bushfire Service, Fire and Rescue Service, Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Volunteer Fire Services.
A series of television advertisements will air for the duration of the season and a number of events that aim to raise awareness of bushfire will occur as part of the multi-faceted campaign.
I have attached the ‘Are you ready?’ poster that can be printed and displayed at brigades, units, groups, local government offices/venues and other community and business places as well as links to websites and facebook.
I will forward more details as they come to hand while the campaign continues over the summer months.
