E-News \u2013 December Edition<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

With 2011 drawing to an end it is interesting to reflect on what has certainly been an eventful year. From the catastrophic tsunami in Japan and the resulting nuclear meltdown at Fukushima to the uprisings throughout the Middle East, several events in 2011 have ensured it will be a year that is remembered for generations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Domestically it has been an especially divisive year in politics with several large policies being pushed through the Parliament against the will of the majority of Australians, marking a particularly undemocratic time in our history. Prime Minister Gillard\u2019s breaking of her pre-election promise not to introduce a carbon tax was the first sign that her government would be willing to do anything in order to hold onto power. It certainly wasn\u2019t the last. <\/span><\/p>\n

There is little doubt that 2012 will be a very busy year, with much planned for the Parliament and with global economic uncertainty set to continue. The implications that a global downturn would have on our economy are largely unknown, however what is certain is that now is a time for stable, confident and competent governance. Instead, Australia is burdened with a Labor Party that can\u2019t choose between the failed experiment that is Julia Gillard, or the power hungry leadership-wrecker that is Kevin Rudd. Labor\u2019s addiction to spending is offset by a rampant addiction to taxing, both undermining Australia\u2019s reputation as a desirable place to invest and hurting the forgotten Australians who are struggling with the ever-increasing cost of living. <\/span><\/p>\n

I thought I would leave you with two great articles by Australia\u2019s leading journalists. The first is by Miranda Devine and discusses the precarious position Australia now finds itself in as a result of moving too far ahead of the rest of the world on pricing carbon emissions. Perhaps more concerning is the evidence that suggests climate scientists have engaged in manipulation of data, routine alienation of scientists who dispute the theory of anthropogenic global warming and the overall culture of climate change science that encourages group think and silences dissent. <\/span><\/p>\n

The second article is written by Piers Akerman and is an excellent summary and analysis of the implications of the Federal government\u2019s illogical, knee-jerk decision to halt live cattle exports to Indonesia in May. This has now led to the Indonesian government slashing future quotas of Australian cattle, perpetuating the damage being inflicted on thousands of Australians dependent on the industry for their livelihood. <\/span><\/p>\n

We all seem to be working longer hours these days and time with our loved ones has become a precious commodity for many of us.
